Located just south of Pinebluff on US #1, Reaves Landscaping & Design Inc. has been in business since 1994.  We are a full service landscape company, specializing in the design and installation of residential landscapes.  Recognized throughout the Sandhills area by builders and homeowners alike as a leader in innovative landscape installation and design, we provide exceptional quality and unsurpassed customer service to our clients.

We are licensed landscape contractors and are members of both the North Carolina Association of Nurserymen and the Homebuilders Association.  Reaves Landscaping & Design is fully licensed and insured as we carry general liability, property damage and workers compensation to protect our company, you and our employees while we work on your property.

Company History:

Co-owners, Joel Kennedy and Steve Johnson have a combined experience in landscaping of of over 50 years. Joel graduated from Sandhills Community College with a degree in Landscape Gardening in 1974.


Steve  Johnson, a 3rd generation stone and brick mason  specializes in hardscaping including brick, stone, specialty gardens and water features.

I contacted Reaves Landscaping for building an Elephant fountain in a pool attached to a two level circular stone  patio in the front yard of our house. I found them to be extremely professional in their approach. Steve Johnson not only helped us to design the project by making scaled drawings of the patio (so we could visualize what the end product would look like) but also assisted us in selecting the right materials  and locating the  fountain and the patio so it was balanced and aesthetically appealing from all angles including the view from outside as well as inside of the house. The project was finished in a timely manner with meticulous attention to all the intricate details of this demanding project. I would highly recommend them for any kind of project no matter how small or extensive for their services are a cut above the others . I would definitely be using them for any future hardscaping.

Our backyard property consisted of sloping terrain to a lake and overlooking a signature hole at our country club.  Developing this rugged, treed backyard to capture the vista of this location became our goal.  Due to the sloping yard, three tiers of cobblestone piazzas were created in old-world style, incorporating curving walls and an inviting flow as one steps from one level to the next, and a pergola with a feel and touch of Italy.

The next phase of our project was incorporating landscaping to enhance the piazzas and to provide a pleasing view from our location as well as from the 11th green and fairway.  This is the time we were introduced to the team of Steve Johnson and Joel Kennedy of Reaves Landscaping.  During their consultations and presentations, we identified four areas of expertise which proved to be the keys to selecting this company to complete the landscape project and to affirm their business practices to this day.

         1. Knowledgeable – Steve visited our property first to evaluate the physical layout as his
          responsibility lies in the implementation of the plan.  Joel, who creates the artistic design of the
          plantings, then met with us and assessed the various areas, evaluating the lighting, watering, soil
          conditions, etc.  He wanted our input in any plantings of our choice as well as color schemes.

          2. Professionalism - Approximately one week later, Joel followed up with a plan consisting of
          the  layout, the plantings, amendment of the soil, and the projected budget.  Joel’s demeanor is
          low-key with a non-pressure approach.  He addressed our questions, asked us to review the
          plan and call him with questions.  A few days later we made our decision to hire Reaves
          Landscaping and worked together to “tweak” the plan. 

          3. Communication – As the project unfolded, we were made aware of every step along the way. 
          Joel would telephone us in advance to let us know who, what, and when as the work
          progressed.  We always received a call prior to the company beginning any phase of the work. 
          Time management was evident and we knew from start to finish what to anticipate.

          4. Accountability – Reaves Landscaping stands behind their work and follows up periodically to
          this day.  They are a resource when questions arise about the care of the plants.  They are
          “customer oriented” and are sincere about customer satisfaction in what they have created.
